Why I Started Bonsai
I started Bonsai because I wanted children to experience something deeper than care — a real connection to an educator who truly knows them, a community that holds them, and a place that feels like theirs. Every child deserves a trusted adult beyond their family who sees them fully.
At its heart, Bonsai is about connection — the bond between a child and an educator who understands their world, the ties that form when families become part of a genuine community, and the quiet sense of belonging that comes from having a place that feels like home.
Too many programs rush kids toward benchmarks and worksheets. I wanted to build a space where a puddle is a science lab, a stick is a magic wand, and a cardboard box is an entire universe.
The name “Bonsai” came from the idea that every child is already whole and extraordinary. Like a bonsai tree, they don’t need to be forced into shape — they need patient, intentional care and the right environment to grow into exactly who they’re meant to be.
Now, as we grow into our new home in West Medford, that belief hasn’t changed. We’re still small on purpose. Still rooted in play. Still growing every day.

What Your Child’s Day Looks Like
All children at Bonsai are engaged in the same theme and activities, and participate in their own way. Each experience is adapted to meet every child’s developmental stage and readiness. Infants and toddlers explore the same subject matter as preschoolers, with additional rest periods and materials that are safe and appropriate for their age. This spirit of learning remains consistent across every room.
